Professor Luqman Zakariyah holds an L.L.B degree in Shariah (Islamic Law) from Islamic University Medina, Saudi Arabia (1997), a Masters in Islamic Studies from Lagos State University, Nigeria (2001), and a Ph.D. in Islamic Legal Studies from the University of Wales, Lampeter, UK (2009). He is currently a professor of Islamic Jurisprudence at the University of Abuja. Prof. Zakariyah has worked and researched at various academic institutions.

He was a Professor of Applied Islamic Jurisprudence and Legal Theory at the Department of Religious Studies, Federal University of Kashere, Nigeria. He was a Teaching Fellow and lecturer of the Study of Islam and Muslims at the University of Aberdeen and at Al-Maktoum College of Higher Education Dundee UK respectively. He was an Islamic Legal Study Program (ISLP) Scholar/Fellow of Harvard Law, USA, a Visiting Scholar of Ripon College, Cuddesdon, and an Honorary Visiting Lecturer, Department of Shariah and Economics, Academy of Islamic Studies University of Malaya, Malaysia.

Prof. Zakariyah was the Head of the Department of Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh and Head of Halal Compliance at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Prof. Zakariyah has published books and academic articles. He has facilitated local, national, and international conferences and seminars on Islamic finance and Islamic Criminal law.
